Reminder: Eid Food & Clothing Drive‏

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

As sadaqah during the best 10 days of our year (Dhul-Hijjah 1-10), we are hosting a Food & Clothing Drive.

Donation boxes are in the Lobby, for

  1. Dry boxed or canned goods,
  2. Lightly-used, washed clothes for all ages and both sexes,and/or
  3. Toiletries (i.e., soap, shampoo, shaving cream, razors, combs, hair brushes, deorderant, etc.).

We will deliver our donations after the Parent Forum/jummah prayer on Friday, December 5, 2008, insha’Allah.

December’s Parent Forum Reminder: 1st Friday

Monthly Parent Forums are always the 1st Friday of each month.

For everyone’s convenience, it will be after jummah prayer/Pick Up Time next Friday, December 5, 2008; insha’Allah.

Please note that we are going back to 1pm khutbah/jummah prayers; since the 12:30pm was inconvenient for many families. We will keep the 1pm time year-round, insha’Allah.

Topics for discussion:

  • Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) Officer voting,
  • Preparation for our Eid celebrations & fundraisers, and
  • Status update & prepration for the Hajj Re-enactment.

If there are any issues you’d like to add to the Agenda, please forward them to mail@skfacademy.org or leave a note in the Administration office on or before, Tuesday, December 2, 2008.

Eid al-Adha Donation Drive (Food, Clothing & Toiletries)

As sadaqah during the best 10 days of our year (Dhul-Hijjah 1-10), we are hosting a Donation Drive.

Donation boxes are in the Lobby, for
a. Dry boxed or canned goods,
b. Lightly-used, washed clothes for all ages and both sexes, and/or
c. Toiletries (i.e., soap, shampoo, shaving cream, razors, combs, hair brushes, deorderant, etc.).

Our Lobby is opened Monday - Thursday 8:30 am - 5:30 pm, Friday 8:30 am - 2:30 pm.

SKFA students (with their parents) will deliver the donations after the Parent Forum/jummah prayer on Friday, December 5, 2008, insha’Allah.

It is my intention that by having our children deliver the donations (charity/sadaqah) to the needy themselves, they will appreciate December’s Theme of Self-Smart/Intrapersonal Multiple Intelligence.

When we delivered our donations to Hamden’s Food Bank after our Ramadan Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Drive, our children felt a sense of humility and honor to help others, and gratitude for what they have, at the same time.

1. E-group waiting for your attendance.

Upon popular request, we set up a Google-egroup for Parents and Administration. After one-week old, only 4 families signed up. Please sign-up to our private invitation-only discussion board at the ink below. This is a better forum for annoucements of this nature  as it serves as a better discussion archive.

http://groups.google.com/group/skfacademy-parents-0809

2. Blog updates:

Brother Ossama Elawad has back-posted many of our past annoucements passed out during Dismissal or sent out in a Email onto our blog: http://blog.skfacademy.org/ We envision our blog to be maintained and updated more consistently now, alhumdulilah.

3. Rhyme & Rhythm Show DVD:

The Hamed Family has volunteered to make a DVD with any and all videos and images taken during our highly-successful Islamic Rhyme & Rhythm Show last Friday. Please make a DVD copy to pass into the Main Office, email images to Madiha, or have her download from your flashdrive on or before Wednesday.

4. Volunteers Needed:

  • PTA officer positions (President, Vice President, Secretary & Tresurer) before the long weekend. We need to prepare during the next 2 short weeks our Eid Celebrations & Fundraisers, such as:

An on-going list of pages to copy is left in the Main Office, as well as the “To Do” list posted outside both doors.

5. Jummahs open to the public:

After our spectacular Show on Friday, Brother Tariq and I decided that it is time to open our jummahs for the public. After 2 months of teaching the etiquette, behavior and performance of prayer; our children have matured nicely alhumdulilah. We encourage your attendance and recruitment of local residents to share all our jummahs together with us.

6. Reminder: Level 2 & 3 Benchmark Assessments This Week

All students are taking Benchmark Assessments all week. We need your support for a healthy night’s sleep and breakfast.

We have a Blog Manager - Alhumdulilah

As you may have noticed, every annoucement, parent handout, etc. have been nicely post-dated and published onto to our blog with the generous time and efforts of Brother Ossama ElAwad, father of Rana from Level 2.

Jazaka Allahu Khayrun Brother Ossama. May Allah SWT reward you and your family with peace, rest, prosperity and all that is great in this life and in the Hereafter. ~Ameen

Alhumdulilah, from the very first time I meet Brother Ossama, he shared how he checked the website and blog nearly every day for updates…anxiously waiting for any new News or Updates. Due to our very limited time and staffing resources, during a recent meeting he offered to help whereever he can.

When I asked if he’d like to learn how to blog and manage a website–he willfully accepted the position.

So, please be patient with us.

While he’s actively posting all past notices as his online-training ;-) we hope to bring our blog and website to life on a more regular and consistent basis.

We want to document all our “Growing Pains” and insha’Allah, we would love to post multimedia (sound, images and video clips) very soon! We literally have hundreds of pictures saved on one of our computers, but until now, we just had enough time to download the pictures. Now it’s time to post and organize them all!

Ossama also stressed that it’s better to post “little updates” than nothing at all. So, with his extra pair of hands, I believe we can establish a much better online presence and voice, insha’Allah.

As always, please share your comments, recommendations, suggestions and wise words in the Comments section below.

Wa salam,
